BMW's X1 Crossover Arrives in the U.S. in late 2010

Starting late next year, BMW Group will launch three crossovers within months of one another in the United States.

In the United States, the X1 will be powered by a six-cylinder gasoline engine and will be available in both front- and all-wheel drive. The X1 is 175.2 inches long--slightly longer than the 1 series--and can carry up to five passengers.

The X1 will be followed in early 2011 by a Mini crossover that debuted as a concept at last year's Paris auto show. That vehicle has not yet been named.

BMW is reportedly studying the viability to built a true supercar for 30 years since its original, limited-edition M1 model, a "high ranking insider" at the firm insists management is trying to reinvent its performance image with a new 'green' supercar, with the ultimate goal to create a two-seater sports car that showcases all of firm’s most sophisticated environmental technology. A limited production run would be timed for release at the end of 2012.
